This is why we do what we do at Perfecting Faith Church

Prior to your first physical visit with us, we would like to provide you with some Biblical background concerning the style of our worship. During our services, worship may take forms that could possibly be unfamiliar to you. It is our sincerest desire to worship according to the Word of God. Therefore, our worship and praise may take various forms.

At times, the service may be very structured and orderly; at other times, our praise and worship may be supercharged with a spontaneous, almost tangible anointing. There are occasions when the praise may be loud and demonstrative; while at other times, it may be very quiet and serene.

We experience periods of excited celebration and jubilation, as well as moments of hushed reverence.

The following information is intended to assist you in recognizing, by textual validation from the Holy Bible, the flow of the Holy Spirit during our Worship experiences:

WHY DO WE PRAISE GOD?
Praise is the Christian's way of thanking God for our salvation, His provisions, and His blessings through our risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Psalm 148:13 "let them praise the name of the Lord, for His name alone is exalted; His glory is above earth and heaven."

Psalm 150:1-2 "Praise God in His sanctuary -- praise God for His mighty acts."

Psalm 150:6 "Let everything that have breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord."

Luke 19:40 "And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out."

WHY DO WE WORSHIP GOD?
Worship is the Christian's way of expressing to God their appreciation for "who" He is and it is the vein through which we ascribe “worth and value” to Him as we speak of His character.

John 4:23-24 "But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him."

Philippians 3:3 "For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the Spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus and have no confidence in the flesh."

WHY DO WE LIFT OUR HANDS?
The lifting up of our hands is a valid scriptural way to worship the Lord. It is a means by which we respond from our hearts demonstrating our love for Him. We may do this during a song that is sung, or to express our agreement with a word that is spoken. We do this to demonstrate the reaching out of our hearts in prayer. It also shows our humility and surrender to God, in an effort for us to express that our lives belong to Him.

Psalm 134:2 "Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the Lord."

I Timothy 2:8 "I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. "

WHY DO WE ANOINT WITH OIL AND PRAY FOR THE SICK?
Oil does not heal people, God heals people. The application of oil is symbolic of the anointing of the Holy Spirit and the laying on of hands in faith in conjunction with the oil, serves as a point of contact.

James 5:14,15 "Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven."

WHY DO WE HAVE AUDIBLE PRAISE TO GOD?

Psalm 103:1 "Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!"

Revelation 1:1,6 "After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying "Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God!"...And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, "Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!"

WHY DO PEOPLE SPEAK OUT DURING SERMONS, READ SCRIPTURE, OR PRAY OUTLOUD?

Acts 4:24 "So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said: 'Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them'."

I Corinthians 14:26 "What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up."

WHY DO WE CLAP OUR HANDS?

Psalm 47:1 "Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples! Shout to God with the voice of triumph!"

WHY ARE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS A PART OF THE WORSHIP SERVICE?

Psalm 150:3-5 "Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; Praise Him with the lute and harp! Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes! Praise Him with loud cymbals; Praise Him with clashing cymbals!"

WHY DO WE PRAY AND SING IN ENGLISH AND/OR IN TONGUES?
The phrase "to sing, or to pray, in the Spirit" means to sing or to pray to God in "unknown/other tongues". Singing or praying in "other or unknown tongues," means that the believer has received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and as a bi-product of that experience, the believer receives a “prayer language’ (glossolalia) or unknown tongue that is not understood or known by him/her. Because of this enablement by God's Spirit within, the believer is able to speak or utter this language as he/she wills. This may occur in the form of prayers and/or singing with a known melody or to a tune that the Holy Spirit gives the believer directly. It is possible that during our services you may hear some members of the congregation pray to the Father in the name of Jesus Christ, both in English, as well as in "other or unknown tongues." It is also possible that you might hear some members of the church singing in the same manner as they are directed by the Holy Ghost.

Mark 16:17 "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;"

Acts 2:4 "And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."

I Corinthians 14:2, 4 "For he that speaketh in an unknown] tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

1 Corinthians 14:14-15 "For if I pray in an [unknown] tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also."

WHY DO WE ALL PRAY AT ONCE FOR SPECIFIC NEEDS?

Acts 4:24 "and when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, Thou art God which hast made Heaven and Earth.

Matthew 18:19 "Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven."

WHY DO WE DANCE IN THE SPIRIT?
Spontaneous, jubilant, non-choreographed, as well as choreographed dancing is biblically based.

Exodus 15:19-20 God has already brought Israel through the sea victoriously over the Egyptians. Miriam takes the timbrel in her hand and all the women went out after her with timbrels and dancing.

Psalms 149:3 "Let them praise His name with dancing."

II Samuel 6:14 "And David danced before the LORD with all [his] might; and David [was] girded with a linen ephod"

WHY DO WE BELIEVE IN DIVINE HEALING?
The bible informs us that sickness is not of God; that it is in fact, the result of the sin curse that was placed upon this world because of mankind's sin. This curse was authored in the original fall of man. Healing is a part of the gift of salvation. This gift was made available to all who believe that it was purchased at Calvary by Jesus Christ, for the believer, with His own blood.

Acts 10:38 "How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him."

Isaiah 53:5 "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

I Peter 2:24 "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

WHY DO PEOPLE SOMETIMES FALL DURING PRAYER?
As the Pastor or other ministers pray for the body of Christ at Perfecting Faith Church (possibly with the laying on of hands), some parishioners may be overwhelmed by the presence of the Holy Ghost and fall under His power.

John 18:1-6 "When therefore Jesus said to them, 'I am He', they drew back, and fell to the ground."

Acts 9:4 "And he fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, 'Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?"

WHY DO WE WORSHIP IN OUR GIVING OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT?

Malachi 3:10 "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."

II Corinthians 9:7-9 "Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work."

Leviticus 27:32 " the tenth shall be holy unto the LORD."
